In these tough economic times it can be so hard to stay healthy. I see more and more of my friends and co-workers cutting back on healthy food purchases and buying cheaper more processed foods. So, is it possible to save money and eat healthy?
Luckily the answer is a resounding yes! One of the goals of our site is to show you how you can save money while staying healthy. While it is tempting to cheat a little here and there it is possible to save a few dollars on your organic food purchases.
The first way that we have found that works very well for my family is by a local Organic Food Buyers Club. What this club does is provide a way for locally grown organic food to be distributed directly from the growers to the buyers while avoiding the middle man. Sometimes these clubs are also called coops or co-ops. No matter what it is called you can get your healthy fruits and vegetables much cheaper than by going to your local healthy food market.
What our club allows us to do is meet once every other week where a small group of volunteers helps pack and separate all the food that is delivered. This delivery is to a local house of one of the members. Then all the members of the club goes to that persons house to pick up there allotment of food. There is one set price which in our case is 50.00 and one can usually get around 150.00 worth of food. This too is variable.
The choice is a little different each week but it is always good fruits and vegetables and can be used in daily cooking and eating. Nothing too out of the ordinary. I find it incredibly convenient and a healthy way to save money.
So how does one find a Coop? Well one way is to look at the bulletin boards most healthy markets have somewhere near the front or eatery. I also found this web site to be of help in the past looking for local market.
